Dr. Richard N. Douglas attended Murray State University in Kentucky, graduating with a major in Biology. He then attended the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois, receiving his OD degree.

He served his externship at FDR VA Hospital in New York and the Perry Point VA Hospital, in Maryland , where he focused on the diagnosis and management of ocular disease. His externships also focused on the management and treatment of low vision, pediatric and binocular vision.

Dr. Douglas entered into private practice in 1998 in Chester, Virginia. In 2001, Dr. Douglas joined Commonwealth Eye Care Associates where, in addition to his private practice, he continues the philosophy of Commonwealth Eye Care Associates, to develop an integrated eye care system of co-management with the OD community.

Dr. Douglas enjoys cooking, carpentry and spending time with his lovely wife, Suzanna Fields.  They live in the Fan with their dog, Buddy.
