Working with Your Optometrist

Our practice is primarily referral based. A family member, friend, or most often, one of your doctors may have referred you to us. Your eye doctor may have referred you to us because they have found something during your eye exam that requires further evaluation, treatment, or perhaps surgery.

So that you receive the highest quality of care, we work in a cooperative effort with your other doctors. This level of working together is referred to as “co-management”. Communication with your referring doctor is most important and we are continually in contact with him/her in reviewing your care and progress. We work closely with your other doctors for scheduling the appropriate follow-up care, either at their office or ours. This coordinated effort provides you with the highest qualify of care in an efficient, effective and timely manner.

For example, you might be referred to us by your primary care physician for an eye examination related to diabetes. We will communicate the results of your examination to both you and your primary care physician, and you will continue your medical care with them.

As another example, your primary eye care provider might refer you to us for evaluation of cataracts, glaucoma, or other eye conditions. We will communicate the results of your examination to you and your primary eye care provider. You will continue your primary eye care with them, including annual eye exams and any prescriptions for glasses or contact lenses.
